Hey y’all!!! Let me start by telling y’all that I’m not a fan of the outdoors. I am truly a northern girl trapped in the south. Not that I don’t love where I am, I absolutely do – but the summers in the south are very hot!!! I don’t like bugs, grass, dirt…or anything else to do with outside. LOL!!!
Although I am not a huge fan of the great outdoors, I am a homeowner. One thing that goes along with homeownership is decorating your home. Last summer I decided to purchase some patio furniture. I spent a little time doing market research trying to determine the best furniture for my lifestyle and the size of my patio and I decided on a sectional that had an ottoman and a table. The one I purchased is no longer available, but here is a similar set. I purchased these two gold planters from At Home, a few pillows from Home Goods and that was about it. Summer was over. I may have sat out there maybe five times – early in the morning to talk to my mom and then came winter.
Oh yeah…I neglected to tell you another thing my backyard lacked. My yard didn’t have a privacy fence!!! That totally kept me from going outside. I’m kinda private and my neighbors being able to see me chillin’ outside was not something I look forward to…EVER!!! LOL!!!
Fast forward to 2019 – I really wanted to make my outdoor space pretty. I wanted it to be a space where I would want to relax, take my hair down and just enjoy the great outdoors – as much as a girl could that doesn’t like the great outdoors.
First things first! Get a privacy fence installed! I had to have it. I knew that I would not enjoy the space if it wasn’t private.
I knew that I wanted somewhat of a bohemian or Moroccan theme. I wanted pops of pink, red, black and white.
I also knew that a lot of my time spent at home after work or on weekends I watch tv, YT videos, etc., so a tv was a must! I got this JVC Roku TV from Walmart for a little over $100. I decided on a Smart TV because I didn’t want to pay for additional cable. LOL!!!

I also thought about ways to block out the sun. It’s just too hot down here. I decided that I would pull in the black and white with some panels to block out the sun. I purchased four (4) 50″ x 120″ black and white striped panels from Amazon for $39.99/each. When the panels aren’t gathered/opened they block all of the sun. It makes is a little bearable to be out there in the heat!!!
I got four curtain tie backs from Amazon. They are super cute and they have magnetic snap closure which make them super easy to use.

I think that lanterns are really pretty in outdoor spaces. I purchased two lanterns at Home Goods. I think they were $19.99/each. I also got this Tommy Bahama wood tray from Home Goods for $14.99. Because I got the lanterns, I moved the two gold planters to the corners of the patio.
The hardest thing for me to find was a rug. I felt like the best way to tie everything in was to purchase a black and white rug. I got this really cute 5’x7′ rug from Amazon. It’s actually a little plush so days when I’m out there and I need to jump up real quick without shoes on…it’s comfortable under my feet.

After finding the perfect rug, I found a few little things to make the table really cute. I got this cute floral arrangement from Home Goods for $9.99 and this great scented candle for $6.99. When I close the panels, I store the curtain tie backs in the wooden tray.

Needless to say, I am in LOVE with my patio…or what I now call my “outdoor oasis!” It is perfect for me. I can come out here to unwind after a long day at work, watch tv, work on my blog or chill with Kinley!
I hope this post gave you some inspiration on how to make your outdoor space your own!
’til next time!
