Hey there! Welcome back to the blog! In today’s post, I’m sharing tips on how to create a simple, minimalistic table scape.
I have come to the realization that my decor style is somewhat minimalistic. I LOVE pretty things and I LOVE making things pretty! For me, most often this means keeping it simple. This spring I have decided to keep my table scape very simple. I have place mats, chargers and a centerpiece. That’s it! Nothing OTT (over the top), nothing fancy. Just a simple well put together design.
Determine your theme. This could be as simple as a color scheme, using the season as inspiration, or using a design element as the focus. If you go with a color scheme, make sure that it’s one that is true to your style and fits in with your home decor. The last thing you want is to have a beautifully decorated space that isn’t true to you (or your family) or doesn’t fit into the overall theme of your home.
This year I started with a design element. I saw a few different natural place mats at Hobby Lobby one day and I knew that I wanted to have them on my dining table. These natural place mats started me on a road to a neutral color palette with black/white and a pop of gold.
Shop your stash! This may need to be step one, but just in case you are new to decorating your tables like I am…there isn’t much to shop for. LOL! I have a few chargers, nice plates and cutlery; but I don’t really own any design pieces for table scapes.
If you do have stash to shop from, I encourage you to start there before spending any additional money. Not only will this save you money, it may also serve as inspiration. You may see a set of placemats that you bought years ago that you never used or you may find a pretty set of napkins that fit into this season’s theme.
This is my favorite step. LOL! Go shopping! Head on out to your favorite store or website and buy what you need to make your plans become a reality. In my case, I knew exactly what I needed and what I was looking for: natural placemats, gold napkin rings, and some white or off white cloth napkins and natural stems for the centerpiece.
On to the fun part! Lay it all out on the table! Pull out the items from your stash and put them along side your newly purchased items to make sure they fit. This is the time when you get to play around a little bit. Move things around to make sure they go exactly where you want them to go and they look the way you want them to look!
Step back and admire your hard work! Make sure that it looks the way you want it to. Double check to see if you need to find some other small element in your stash or make a quick run to a store to make the table complete!
I hope you enjoyed this post! In the comments below, let me know what type of designer are you when it comes to table scapes. Are you simple/minimalistic, over the top, don’t decorate at all (no judgement here) or somewhere in between.
I have a video on my YT channel to show you just how to do this! You can check the video out here.
’til next time!
