Hey! Welcome back to the blog! I know it’s been a couple of months. First and foremost, I started to go back into the office once a week and it threw my rhythm off…and then…after two plus years of being COVID free…I caught COVID!!! I’m all better now and I’m ready to get back to blogging! In today’s post I am sharing my summer capsule wardrobe. These are the pieces that I will be wearing over and over again this summer! I’m so excited to share these must-haves with you. I do have some new pieces that I have added to my wardrobe but honestly…I’ve had some of these pieces for quite a while. I’ll link what I can below!
BOTTOMS
I really haven’t worn shorts in such a long time that buying them has never been a priority for me. Over the past few years it seemed that shorts were getting…shorter and being an hour glass figured woman over 40 meant that they weren’t a piece that I cared to wear. Well…that was until 2022! This summer I went on a vacation to Hilton Head Island, SC and I decided that I was going to buy some shorts. The reason that I never bought shorts in the past (over the past 10 years really) is because I didn’t feel comfortable in them. I am hippy and I have a butt, so I was always tugging at them, they never fit my waist and they just seemed like more of a hassle than a wardrobe staple for me. This year I purchased two pair – a white pair and a denim pair. I like both of them. They are both currently getting altered (hourglass shape girl problems over here) and I can’t wait to get them back so that I can wear them.
I got this white pair from J. Crew. I felt that it would be good to have a pair of shorts that I could “dress up” if I needed to. They are a great length and they have cute pockets. The pickets aren’t your traditional ones that are on the side of the shorts, they are up top so they don’t poke out if you have hips. I got this denim pair from American Eagle. I have really grown to like American Eagle jeans. They are stretchy and they have a few different wash options. Not to mention the jeans are affordable. They are comfortable to wear as well. This pair in particular has stretch in the waist which is AMAZING!!!
I still wear jeans during the summer. Most often I will wear either a white pair of denim or the latest pair of jeans to my wardrobe from American Eagle. I have had a pair of Nine West white jeans for about five years now. I think this may be the last season that I wear them. They material isn’t the greatest (although they are extremely stretchy). Here is a similar pair from AE. I also wear this pair of distressed boyfriend jeans from AE that I bought from a thrift store! It was my first thrift store purchase and I love them! Here is a link for a similar pair from AE.
Linen is always the best option in summer – especially if you live in a very warm climate like the one I live in. I got these wide leg wide linen pants about five years ago from a local boutique. I haven’t worn them in years, but I wore them on the plane to my trip to Hilton Head and they were extremely comfortable and breathable.
TOPS
This summer has lended itself to crop tops. It’s been a very long time since I’ve worn a crop top, but I am liking this crop top that I got off Amazon. It was affordable and it is very comfortable. It looks great with the white wide leg linen pants. The next top I will be wearing a lot it this flowy cami style top I got years ago from LOFT. This is probably the last season that I will have this top as well, but it’s really cute. I typically wear it with jeans for a casual look. I love one shoulder tops in the summer. They not only take your casual outfit up a notch, but they are very sexy in my opinion. They show off you décolletage (which is the sexiest part of a woman’s body…or so.I hear) and they add a little fun to your outfit. I bought this one shoulder white peplum tie waist shirt from Express last year and I got this blue and white striped one from LOFT years ago. They are both super cute! I wear the white one when I want to make a pair of jeans stand out and I wear the blue and white striped one with jeans and flats.
DRESSES
Dresses are my absolute favorite!!! I’ve purchased a couple of new dresses for the summer season, but this one I know for sure will be worn a lot! I tend to wear a lot of white, white and blue or dresses with white during the summer months because it gets so hot!!! White keeps your cool and it goes with the majority of all of my sandals…so I’m always buying a white dress. I also think that it’s relatively easy to dress white up during the summer with a cute wedge or sandal. I got this cute white dress from Old Navy. It was only $30!!! It has cut outs on the sides and puff sleeves…and…it’s made out of cotton poplin which is really cool to wear in the summer. I have also gotten a lot of wear out of this cute yellow polka dot maxi dress I got last year from Anthropologie and this white midi length dress from J.Crew. They are two of my favorite. I tend to elevate these two dresses with belts and they look super cute! I also think it’s important to have that little black dress for all seasons. The dress that’s currently in my wardrobe that I LOVE is from LOFT. I’ve had it for years!!! It’s that dress that you can wear to any occasion – work , church, date night…you name it…you can wear it! Just change the accessories and make it fit for the occasion.
GOING OUT ATTIRE
I think black is always chic, so I have to have a black option in my capsule wardrobe. On nights when I’m going out with friends or if I went on a date, I would wear this black jumpsuit from Express. I got it two years ago and I don’t think I’ve ever worn it out, but I can’t wait to wear it! I think it would let great would a pair of sandals in a fun color to add an unexpected pop to the outfit. I also wear this cute mini dress a lot during summer. It’s probably six or seven years old now. It’s mini, the sleeves are sheer and it’s floral. I absolutely love it!!! I think it’s really fun and flirty.
That sums up my summer capsule wardrobe. There are some items that I may have missed, but you can check out this video on my YT channel that goes a little more in depth and I actually show the pieces.
I hope you enjoyed the post!
’til next time!
