Hey pretty girl! Welcome back to the blog! I hope you have been staying warm…we’ve definitely had our share of cold days this winter here in Alabama. As such, I know that some states will be experiencing winter for a couple more months so I decided to write a post all about those fabrics that you should consider adding to your wardrobe for the winter season.
As the chilly winds of winter set in, it’s time to rethink our wardrobes and embrace the cozy, stylish fabrics that not only keep us warm but also ensure we look impeccably chic. Here’s a curated list of must-have fabrics that will elevate your winter fashion game for the remainder of this season.
NO. O1 WOOL
Wool is often hailed as the quintessential winter fabric for good reason. Its natural insulating properties keep you warm, while its moisture-wicking abilities ensure you stay dry. From classic wool coats to luxurious cashmere sweaters, wool offers a sophisticated aesthetic that can be dressed up or down.
I have one wool blend, short sleeve sweater and a couple of wool blend coats and they all keep me warm. If you tend to get cold during winter, give wool a try.
NO. 02 TWEED
Tweed is a timeless fabric that exudes elegance and refinement. This textured fabric is perfect for tailored blazers and skirts, making it an excellent choice for both professional and casual winter ensembles. Plus, its durability ensures it will last for many seasons to come.
NO. O3 CASHMERE
Cashmere is synonymous with luxury and warmth. This sumptuous fabric not only feels wonderfully soft against the skin but also provides excellent insulation. Cashmere sweaters, scarves, and wraps are essential for an effortlessly chic winter wardrobe, elevating any look with their sophistication.
I’ve gone on and on about how much I LOVE this cashmere sweater I bought from Quince a little over a year ago. I have since bought it in grey. Cashmere is one of those fabrics that you don’t know you need until you’ve tried it and Quince is an amazing brand to try first because it’s so affordable!
This wonderfully textured fabric is making a comeback this winter. With its distinctive ribbed finish, corduroy adds visual interest and warmth to any outfit. Opt for corduroy trousers or a chic skirt paired with a soft sweater for a sophisticated yet comfortable look.
NO. 05 VELVET
For a touch of luxury, look no further than velvet. This sumptuous fabric is perfect for holiday parties and special occasions. Whether you choose a velvet dress, blazer, or even accessories, this fabric adds richness and elegance to your winter wardrobe.
NO. 06 DOWN
While technically not a fabric in the traditional sense, down insulation is essential for cold-weather outerwear. From puffer jackets to chic trench coats lined with down, this material provides unparalleled warmth without adding bulk, allowing you to maintain both style and comfort.
Being a northern girl at heart, I am no stranger to down outerwear. I now live in southeastern United States and I don’t get to wear down outerwear often, but when it’s cold outside and I am dressed really casually, it comes in handy. This coat by Bernardo is AMAZING! It is priced very well, it’s really soft and it keeps you warm. I bought it to travel to New York last year and I haven’t regretted it.
NO. 07 FLANNEL
Flannel shirts are a winter staple, combining comfort and versatility in one stylish package. Ideal for layering or wearing solo, this soft fabric can be paired with jeans for a casual look or dressed up with a skirt for a more polished appearance.
NO. 08 SILK
Silk adds a luxurious touch to your winter ensembles and is perfect for layering. Silk blouses or camisoles provide warmth without bulk, making them ideal for pairing under sweaters or blazers. Additionally, silk scarves can add an elegant accent to any outfit while keeping you cozy.
I don’t own any silk pieces besides neck scarves, but if you are looking for long sleeve shirts, check out this one and this one from Quince.
I’m also looking at this dress and this dress, both from Quince.
Embracing these must-have fabrics will not only enhance your winter wardrobe but will also ensure you remain stylishly snug throughout the season. As you curate your collection, consider mixing and matching these textiles to create sophisticated outfits that reflect your personal style. Warmth and elegance can indeed go hand in hand.
I hope you enjoyed this post all about must have fabrics for winter fashion. I’d love to hear what your go-to fabrics are for winter. Let me know in the comments!
’til next time!
