Hey pretty girl! Welcome back to the blog! In today’s post I am sharing some tips on how to prepare for an Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. conference. If you have never attended an AKA conference; you should enjoy reading this post. Cluster is one of our conferences that’s on a smaller scale ; but I think this post will serve as a good reference to ensure you’re prepared for conduct the business of the sorority at one of our conferences. While I am a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha, I’m sure this post would apply to at least all National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) organizations.
ATTIRE
This is the most important part, right? LOL! I tend to try to wear pink, green and/or pink and green during all sorority conferences. Most attendees will be wearing these colors or a combination of these colors with white, black, or other neutral colors with hints of pink and green just to ensure that they are representing the sorority in the best possible way! This year, the Alabama Statewide Cluster will be held in Huntsville, so all I must worry about it my outfit and ensuring that I arrive at the VBC timely enough to get a good parking space.
Option #1: This year, I have a few options for this conference. I bought this dress from Walmart. I thought it was a good choice because we are approaching the fall season and it’s green. Now, it’s the apple green shade that pretty girls adore, but I think this army green shade is perfect. I also love that it’s a shirtdress which is my absolute favorite style of dress because you can dress it up or down. I can wear it with a bootie, a flat, a pump or knee-high boots. I also love that it has long sleeves because it will more than likely be cool or even cold in the convention center.
Option #2: I am also thinking about wearing this eyelet dress by J. Crew. I’ve had it for years! I can’t believe I’ve never worn it to a sorority conference before. I always get compliments when I wear it, and I can pair it with a pretty pink lip that will ensure that I’m exuding pretty girl attitude from head to toe. The length is good as well – it’s not too short and it has ¾ length sleeves which should keep me relatively warm in the convention center.
Option #3: This pink dress is also a close contender. It is supposed to be 91 degrees Saturday, and I don’t want to be hot. I love this dress because it has short sleeves and it’s light weight. I can easily throw a blazer over my shoulder or add a white cardigan to ensure that I stay warm.
Option #4: Because it is going to be hot on Saturday and there isn’t a high chance of rain, I could pull out my ivory linen blend midi dress I got last year from Gap. I love this dress! It is midi-length (which makes it AKA appropriate) and it’s a neutral which will allow me to wear an AKA cardigan over my shoulders.
Option #5: This green sheath dress is also a great option! I love a sheath dress. They look amazing on my shape, and they are the epitome of business attire. If I decide on this dress, I would more than likely drape a white cardigan over my shoulders as well.
the bag
We typically get a conference bag with our registration, but I always carry my own bag. I have owned quite a few pink and green bags over the years, but they are all old or not appropriate for the season. This year I decided to get a new bag, and I decided on this fun one! The pink is so bright, and I absolutely LOVE it!!! I am a tote bag kinda girl, so this decision was a no-brainer. I carry a tote bag because they’re large and I can throw any everything in it! If you’re interested in how I packed the bag watch this.
These are some of the things I carry in my bag:
- My documents – in my Small Truffle Clarity Clutch
- Water bottle
- Notebook
- Pens/Pencils – I decided to use an old Tory Burch eyeglass case to store these
- Snacks – in my Small Truffle Clarity Pouch
- Scarf/Wrap
- A handheld fan – in my Large Truffle Clarity Clutch
- A pair of flats – in a cute shoe bag
- Make up bag/Everyday Carry
- Portable charger
OTHER THINGS TO BRING
- A copy of your registration
- Your financial card
I hope you enjoyed this post all about what I packed in my bag for my sorority conference. Do you have a particular bag that you use to house all of your sorority and/or organization things? I would love to know! Let me know in the comments.
’til next time!
