Hey pretty girl! Welcome back to the blog! I told you…I told you…being at home was going to at least have me blogging a little more regularly. Here I am with another post for the Deeply Rooted series!
So, there are definitely a few different types of gardens. I want to talk to you about why I chose raised bed gardens.
- First and foremost, I have a little doggie. Her name is Kinley. She a little 8 lb. Chorkie (Yorkie Chihuahua) and I didn’t want her to get into the garden. You know how dogs can be 😉
- Second, I didn’t really want to ruin the landscape in my yard in the chance that I didn’t like gardening or I got discouraged. I like that raised bed gardens give you options to make your garden aesthetically pleasing.
- Third, I’m a girly girl…like a real girly girl. I love pretty things. Although having your own garden is a beautiful thing conceptually, they aren’t always that pretty realistically. This is just a preference thing for me. I really fell in love with the idea of having my backyard remain my backyard while having my functioning garden look pretty. I actually went outside of the traditional wood raised garden beds and went with galvanized steel garden beds. I chose this design for three reasons: 1) I love galvanized steel. I think it’s really pretty. I had also purchased some steel and copper garden labels that I thought would go really well with any garden I chose. 2) I’m a single girl. No boyfriend, no husband. While I like the look of wood; cutting it, drilling holes in it, measuring it, lifting it, etc…would have made me dependent on someone else and I didn’t want to do that. 3) Once I decided that I was going with a pre-fab design, I saw the galvanized raised bed gardens on Amazon and I was sold! Not only that, they were 12″ high instead of the traditional 8″ high. This was a bonus for the Kinster and I. Having the beds 12″ off of the ground would make jumping in the garden a little less desirable for her.
- Last but not least, I was kind of afraid of losing my fruit to animals and/or weeds and such. I felt like the raised beds would kinda alleviate a little bit of that concern. I like in a semi-rural area and we get all kinds of animals, rodents, etc. out here…so I wanted to stay clear of that as much as possible.
That’s about it! I hope your enjoyed reading this post. I hope that it makes your look into raised garden beds for your own garden.

’til next time! xox Robyn
