Hey pretty girl! Welcome back to the blog! We all love a fresh wardrobe moment, but sometimes the most stylish looks come from the pieces already hanging in your closet. This season, I’m encouraging you to shop your own wardrobe and get creative. These five spring/summer style tricks will breathe new life into your look—no spending necessary.
If you’re new around here (or just catching up), here are some recent blog posts you’ll want to check out!
That oversized tee? Tie it at the waist for a flattering cropped effect. Got a button-down? Try tying it over a sundress or high-rise shorts. This little styling trick adds shape and personality to otherwise simple pieces.
For this look, I did something way out of the norm for me. Instead of tucking the shirt in, I decided to tie it in a knot which made the shirt a little cropped. I think it looks really good with the wide leg jeans paired with a caramel sandal.
Don’t save your dresses for special occasions! Style a flowy maxi with sneakers and a straw tote for a casual day look. Or wear a slip dress over a fitted tee or under a lightweight kimono. Layered looks are still chic—just breezier.
To switch things up a bit, I decided to add a denim jacket over this maxi dress and I absolutely love how it turned out. Adding the jacket and the sneakers made the dress a little casual.
A colorful headband, woven belt, or bold earrings can transform the most basic outfit. Try tying a printed scarf around your ponytail, wrist, or bag handle for an easy dose of charm.
I love a good t-shirt and jeans look. It’s actually my style uniform. During spring/summer I always add a sandal to this look to make it a more elevated casual look. What I don’t normally do is add a statement earring. I think this earrings added a little more fun to an otherwise basic outfit.
Pair a voluminous top with slim shorts, or a fitted tank with wide-leg linen pants. Balancing proportions is a stylist’s trick to creating intentional, polished looks—even with casual staples.
Playing with proportions is my thing. When you have an hourglass shape, you have to play with proportions very carefully to ensure that you don’t look voluminous all over. Pairing a fitted bodysuit with wide leg jeans, was a win!
That ruffled blouse or silky skirt? Don’t save it. Dress it down with flat sandals or a denim jacket. Mixing elevated and relaxed pieces creates that perfectly undone, high-low vibe that feels modern and effortless.
This dress is the nicest piece I’ve bought over the past few months and I don’t have anywhere to wear it. I definitely plan to wearing this dress more casually to get some wear out of. I can see it for brunch with the girls or wearing it to work with a cute wedge.
This week, challenge yourself to style one spring/summer outfit using only what’s in your closet. No shopping—just creativity. I’d love to see what you come up with. Tag me on IG @prettyprimandproper so I can share your look!
