THE LINGERIE EDIT – MUST HAVE FOUNDATIONS FOR FEELING COMFORTABLE + CONFIDENT
Hey pretty girl! Welcome back to the blog!
There’s something about growing into yourself that shifts your perspective on the little things—like lingerie. For years, I assumed shapewear was only for women trying to hide something. I didn’t think I needed it. My silhouette was smooth, my midsection didn’t need much support, and I figured shapewear wasn’t made for women like me.
But with time—and a bit of wisdom—I’ve come to realize that shapewear isn’t about hiding, it’s about enhancing. The right pieces don’t just hold you in; they smooth, sculpt, and elevate everything you put on top. It’s less about changing your shape and more about refining your foundation.
I used to think lingerie was only meant for romantic occasions—something lacy, reserved for someone else’s eyes. I had no idea that my everyday essentials—bras, panties, hosiery, and shapewear—were part of that same category.
It wasn’t until this past Christmas that something truly clicked. My mother came to stay with us, and during one of her laundry days (as moms do), I noticed something unexpected: three bodysuits—shapewear, yes—but the pretty kind. One was sleek and black, another a soft periwinkle trimmed in lace, and the third a neutral tan that looked more like a teddy than anything functional.
That was the moment it dawned on me—I needed a few of these beautiful, confidence-boosting pieces in my own wardrobe. Not just for their allure, but for what they do underneath it all: create the kind of polished base that helps your outfits—and your posture—feel pulled together.
Lingerie isn’t just about lace and allure—it’s about feeling supported, confident, and effortlessly feminine from the inside out. Whether you’re getting dressed for a quiet day at home or a big event, the right foundations can make all the difference.
I’ll be the first to tell you that I thought that lingerie was meant for special intimate moments between a man and woman as a young girl. It was until I got in my 40s that I realized that everything we wear under our clothes – from bras, to panties to hosiery are all considered lingerie! You may have known that for years, but I just found that out and now that I know, I am all in and ready to truly invest in quality pieces for my lingerie wardrobe.
As a new ambassador for Truekind, I’ve discovered pieces that deliver on both form and function—so today, I’m sharing the essential lingerie staples every woman should have in her wardrobe.
FROM THE ARCHIVES
If you’re new around here (or just catching up), here are some recent blog posts you’ll want to check out!
NO. 1 A WIREFREE EVERYDAY BRA
Comfortable. Supportive. Invisible under clothes. A wire-free bra like the Truekind® Supportive Comfort Wireless Shaping Bra is a non-negotiable for day-to-day wear.
I’ve been wearing this bra for day-to-day wear and I absolutely love it! It’s so comfortable to wear underneath all of my clothes – both dresses and shirts and there is not digging of underwire. I also noticed that I did not have to pull the straps up at all throughout the day! It sits comfortably against my skin, there is no spillage out of the cups.
For reference I wear an XL in Truekind bras and in other bras I wear a 38DDD.
Style Tip: Choose a tone close to your skin for a seamless look under white tops.
NO. 02 - A SEAMLESS BRIEF OR HIGH-WAIST PANTY
Say goodbye to panty lines. A seamless panty gives a smooth finish and pairs beautifully with fitted dresses and trousers.
Favorite Pick: Soma Vanishing Edge Collection
Sculpts lightly and stays put—no tugging, no digging.
These are hands down, the best panties for women with curves! If you are a woman that has a nice derriere, these panties are perfect. They feature Soma’s Patented Vanishing Edge® technology with stay-put silicone at the leg openings keeps panties in place without panty lines – which means no unintended panties in between your cheeks. They don’t move!!! Any of them will work, but I love the Modern Brief Panty and the Cotton Blend Panty with Lace.
NO. 02 A SUPPORTIVE BRALETTE FOR LOUGE AND LAYERING
Perfect under cardigans, sheer tops, or just for feeling put-together while relaxing at home. Look for soft, breathable fabrics and a flattering shape.
Favorite Pick: Truekind® Everyday Throw-on Wireless Bralette
NO. 04 A STRAPLESS OR CONVERTIBLE BRA
A must-have for special occasions or off-the-shoulder pieces. Choose one with a silicone grip or smoothing side wings for all-day wear.
My go-to is the Red Carpet Convertible Strapless Bra by Wacoal. I’ve been wearing it for years now and all of the fashion bloggers rave about it! It’s the perfect bra to wear on the days when showing bra straps just won’t do. It’s comfortable to wear and the plus is that you get two bras in one.
Style Tip: Get fitted for bras at least once a year. I made the mistake of buying a bra a few months ago in my “normal size” only to find out that my boobs grew! One of my boobs is two cup sizes larger than the other! It was by far the craziest thing ever, but once I tried the bras on, I knew something was off. I headed straight to Soma to get fitted and now I’m wearing the right size bra – no spillage and no discomfort.
NO. 05 A SCULPTING SLIP OR BODYSUIT
A smoothing layer that helps dresses and skirts drape beautifully. Look for light shaping—not restriction—for a breathable, wearable base layer.
Optional Add-On: A shaping cami or smoothing tank.
I don’t personally own a sculpting slip or bodysuit, but I have invested in quality underwear, body shapers by both Wacoal and Honeylove. I own this short by Wacoal that is perfect for wearing under short, flowy dresses. The Spanx underwear is AMAZING for every day wear. It’s comfortable and made out of a breathable fabric. It’s not as compressing as a bodysuit, but it’s perfect for a smoothing effect to wear daily. The body shaper panties from Honeylove have quickly become a favorite for wearing under jeans and trousers. They are comfortable to wear and have nice compression.
For everyday wear, these SPANXsmooth™ Undie-tectable Briefs are my favorite! They are so comfortable to wear! I am normally a size Large in underwear, but in these, I wear a Medium. They offer light compression. They can ease up in the cheeks at times, but they are lightweight and so comfortable to wear.
On days when I need a little more compression, I love the Silhouette Shaping Briefs by Honeylove are AMAZING!!! I had only worn these a couple of times since I bought them, but since going back into the office every day, I have worn them a little more often. I tend to wear these under jeans and pants because the crossover design on the front of them which can be visible if wearing with a dress.
On days when I wear dresses that can be a tad on the short side, I’ve been loving these Body Base Smoothing Shorts by Wacoal. I wear a size Medium.
A shaping cami, smoothing tank and bodysuit are next on my list of lingerie needs! I’m looking at this bodysuit by Wacoal and this one by Pinsy. I also have this tank on my radar.
Lingerie is personal—but building a collection of thoughtful, comfortable, and flattering basics can elevate your confidence with every outfit.

I hope you enjoyed this post all about lingerie and shape wear. I truly believe that lingerie is the stepping stone to helping you feel and look your best when you put your clothes on. Wearing the wrong under garments can totally destroy your look, so make sure you’re wearing the right pieces underneath your clothes.
’til next time,
xo, Robyn
