Hey pretty girl! Welcome back to the blog! Fall is my favorite style season because it’s all about layering, textures, and polish. This year, I’m leaning into a closet full of pieces that feel classic, chic, and a little fun & flirty—exactly how I define my style.
Here are the staples I recommend for starting your fall wardrobe reset:
If you’re new around here (or just catching up), here are some recent blog posts you’ll want to check out!
I’m loving how a blazer can pull together even the simplest outfit. Throw it on over jeans, trousers, or a midi dress for instant sophistication.
I love a good blazer! I don’t own as many as I’d like to, but I really feel like a blazer can transform any basic outfit into a chic, polished look! Fall is the perfect season to pull out all the stops with your blazers. If you already own a black and white blazer, think about adding a fun pop of color, pattern or print blazer.
The perfect mix of cozy and chic, knit dresses are an effortless one-and-done piece for fall. Add boots and a trench for cooler days. I don’t own any knit dresses. They don’t fare that well in my climate, however, this is the time of year where I get to switch my scrappy sandals with knee high boots and get more wear out of some of my fall/winter dresses. This dress from Tuckernuck is one of my favs! I love the way is looks with bare legs, knee high boots and a trench. So chic, effortless and polished.
I’m still living in my H&M straight leg trousers. They are so flattering on most body shapes and they are a classic silhouette that never goes out of style. I have them in black, navy and a beige color. They are they good! If you haven’t heard this from me already, straight leg pants and jeans are the perfect silhouette (IMO) because they go well with every kind of shoe!
If you aren’t a straight leg kinda girl, wide-leg cuts in neutrals like black or sand are versatile enough for work, dinner, or weekend brunch. I love a good pair of denim trousers to wear on the weekends or to work on casual Fridays. A pair of denim trousers in a dark or black rinse instantly elevates your look. Pair them with a pair of heels, booties or wedge and a blazer and you are ready for lunch, dinner or a meeting.
Swap your sleeveless summer pieces for long sleeves in breathable fabrics. Cardigans draped over the shoulders add a “prim but not trying too hard” feel.
I am looking to add more cardigans to my fall wardrobe this year. I picked this ivory tweed one up from Ann Taylor and it’s so fun. A cardigan is a wardrobe staple which is very useful during fall and the transitional period between summer and fall. They go well paired over sleeveless tops and/or dress, trouser or jeans.
I LOVE outerwear! As a Detroit native, our outerwear was more functional than fashionable, but living in the south has allowed me to curate a wardrobe with fun outerwear pieces that are not only functional, but very stylish.
A trench, a cropped jacket, or even a chic cape instantly makes your outfit look intentional. One great coat can define your whole fall look.
I have a trench coat try-on to share with you soon, so make sure you follow me on LTK so that you can check out my top picks!
Think loafers, block-heel boots, and chic ballet flats. I’ll still sneak in my Veronica Beard slides on warm days, but I’m preparing to transition to more closed-toe options.
Last year I picked up two new pairs of knee high boots that got so much wear! I also picked up two pairs of black booties – one suede and one leather by Gianvito Rossi from The Real Real a couple of weeks ago. Watch this video to check them out!
I’m still on the hunt for a pair of loafers for the fall and I haven’t found any just yet. I’ll be sure to share them with you once I do.
I hope you enjoyed this post all about closet staples to start the fall season! If you found this post helpful – let me know in the comments! I’d love to hear about it!
’til next time!
xo, Robyn
