Hey pretty girl! Welcome back to the blog! After a long hiatus, I’m lacing up (well, gripping up!) and making my return to Pure Barre. This low-impact, high-burn workout has always held a special place in my wellness journey. From the pulsing movements to the empowering community, there’s something about barre that makes me feel both graceful and strong.
As I ease back into the studio, I knew I wanted to refresh my wardrobe…because putting on something I love adds just the right energy. It’s part motivation, part ritual! So, whether you’re a barre newbie or returning like me, this post will help you feel polished, prepped, and perfectly pulled together for your next class.
FROM THE ARCHIVES
If you’re new around here (or just catching up), here are some recent blog posts you’ll want to check out!
WHAT TO WEAR TO BARRE
No. 01 High Waisted Leggings
Look for leggings that offer light compression, a no-slip waistband, and flexibility for all the stretching and sculpting. I personally love neutral tones (think black…LOL) and classic silhouettes that transition effortlessly from studio to errands. As I started shopping to prepare my wardrobe, I went straight to the sale section and all of the light colors were on sale so I bought four pair!!!
If you don’t know this already, Lululemon Align Leggings are my favorite! They feel so good against the skin, they are very high waisted and they come in lengths for every woman. The price tag is a little high, but they are honestly worth every penny. As a woman with an hourglass figure, it is important that I have leggings that are high waisted (especially for a workout like Pure Barre with all of the moving around and bending over) so that I’m self-conscious about my leggings rolling down or exposing any body parts that I don’t want fellow barre attendees to see!
Pretty Picks: I bought all of these! Athleta is having an AMAZING sale and I couldn’t leave these behind. The colors are perfect for summer!
No. 02 Fitted Top, Bra Tank or Crop Tank
You’ll want a top that stays in place during planks and pliés. A built-in bra tank or a slim-fitting tee works perfectly. The last time I attended a barre class longer style tops and open back tops were in style, now it appears that crop tanks are trending more.
Pretty Picks: I ordered both of these tanks because I felt that would be easy to wear and they would go with all of the leggings. I ordered the Grid Knit Tank in both black and white and the True Cotton Crop Tank in both white and Fog Grey Heather.
Sports bras are very important for comfort as well. As a woman with a DDD bra cup (I know…I know..crazy, right?), this go round I’m opting for sports bras with high necklines and full coverage. There are so many cute options for all of us. Don’t skimp out on comfort trying to be cute! You don’t want any mishaps while planking. I got this bra in both Navy/White and Glossamer Blue.
Pretty Picks: I got this bra in both Navy/White and Glossamer Blue.
No. 03 Grippy Socks – A Barre Essential
Grippy socks are a must for Pure Barre classes. They provide stability and help you maintain your balance, especially on carpeted or wood floors. And yes—they come in very chic options.
I know I went on and on about bras and leggings, but the socks are the star of the show in Pure Barre! I mean, there are so many brands, so many designs and styles that it can be very hard to choose the right one for you!
The majority of the grippy socks I still have (yes, I still have some and wear them all the time) are by Tavi Noir, but I want to give Shashi I try for availability. You can get them on Amazon.
Whether you prefer full-coverage, open-toe, or ballet-inspired styles, here are some standout grippy sock brands I recommend:
Tavi Active
Elegant and sleek. These are my personal favorite for their ballet-inspired look and breathable fabric.
[Available at Amazon, Barre Studios and TaviNoir.com]
ToeSox
Known for their anatomical fit and toe separation. Great for those who love barefoot-style training.
[Shop at Amazon, Barre3, and REI]
Gaiam
Affordable and great for beginners. They come in multipacks with fun patterns.
[Target, Amazon, Walmart]
Sticky Be Socks
With uplifting mantras on the soles like “Be Grateful” or “Be Brave,” these socks are both functional and affirming.
[StickyBeSocks.com, Barre studios, and small boutiques]
Shashi Grip Socks
Shashi designs are made specifically for barre, Pilates, and yoga. Featuring sleek mesh uppers (hello, breathable comfort!) and full-coverage grips, they deliver both style and functionality[Amazon, Walmart and BarreAmped]
Pretty Picks: I added both of these to my collection. I love how chic the black and white mesh socks look by Shisha and I LOVE lemons! I could not pass these cuties up when I saw them!
Returning to the barre isn’t just about movement—it’s about reclaiming a rhythm of self-care. Dressing the part helps me walk into class with confidence and intention. If you’re thinking of giving Pure Barre a try (or getting back to it), I hope this inspires you to show up looking—and feeling—your absolute best. You can shop all of the items in my Back to the Barre Edit here.
I hope you enjoyed this post all about my recommendations on what to wear to the barre! Have a favorite brand of barre socks? Leave a comment or DM me—I’m always on the lookout for polished picks!
’til next time!
xo, Robyn
